Easter Should Be Your Favorite Holiday

What's your favorite holiday?  Okay so maybe that's not a question adults ask each other, but during my teacher years I was asked it numerous times.  Of course, the answer was always expected to be Christmas or my birthday because of the presents, I suppose.  Ugh.  I actually used to say the 4th of July because I really like fireworks and it is summer and it is fun.  But randomly today, without even being asked the question, it hit me that everyone's favorite holiday should be Easter.  Not for the Easter egg hunts, the picture with the easter bunny, or even the marshmallow Peeps I always used to beg for and then not eat.  It is also not because of gathering with family, eating good food, or dressing up really nice.  Easter should be your favorite holiday because of what it truly means.

"What shall we say then?  Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?  By no means!  We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?  Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?  We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection.  For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin--because anyone who has died has been freed of sin.
Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.  For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him.  The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.  In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus."  Romans 6:1-11 NIV

Thousands of years ago, Jesus died for my sin.  MY sin.  Wow!  Jesus cares about me, one individual in billions that have walked this earth.  He cared so much he was willing to die on the cross so that I wouldn't have to.  When you really think about that, let it resonate in your heart and soul, how can you not fall on your knees in praise, worship, and thanks?  I get to go to Heaven and have eternal life all because of Jesus!  That is the greatest gift imaginable!  And to think I used to say the 4th of July was my favorite holiday.  So, that's why we celebrate Easter because Jesus died, not just for me, but for us ALL.  And He is alive forevermore.

If you are reading this and you haven't declared Jesus Lord of your life, you should.  He died for you, too.  He wants you to know Him and love Him.  Repent of your sins and tell Jesus you need Him and the Holy Spirit will come to life in you.  Most importantly, you'll have eternal life in Heaven!  Then you can really celebrate Easter!
