Hawkeyes

We are big Hawkeye fans around here, especially for the women's basketball team.  I had the wonderful opportunity to coach an even more wonderful young woman who plays for the Hawkeyes all four years of her high school career.  We developed a great bond and I have loved continuing to follow her career down at Iowa.  In Aria's first two years of life it was a bit difficult to make it to very many games.  A lot of them seemed to happen after bedtime or during naptime.  This year it is so much easier because Aria is a lot more flexible.  So, we've been to a lot more games!  Not only do we enjoy the basketball and seeing Jaime out on the court, the atmosphere is so family friendly at the women's games.  We can sit pretty close to the court and Herky makes frequent stops near us.  Every game they randomly pick "one lucky fan" who wins a free pizza from Pizza Hut and a little bag of other goodies.  In the first three games we went to this year, Aria won twice.  Basically they swing the camera around the arena and eventually focus in on the winner.  In other words, they find a really cute kid to put up on the big screen and Herky brings them a present.  It definitely pays to bring a cute kid to the game!  Aria's favorite part is getting to see Herky.  She absolutely loves him!  She hugs him every time and follows his movements around the arena throughout the game.  She does pay attention to the basketball, too.  When people ask her who she is going to see at the Hawkeye game, her response is always, "Herky and Jaime."  She loves them both!  It's been an awesome season for the Hawks so far and an awesome experience for us to enjoy as a family!
